James Codling

Whilst James’s main role is as the MCA and Deprivation of Liberty L&D Manager for Cambridgeshire County Council, he also delivers MCA training for five other local authorities on this topic, is also involved in national research in this area of law and has written articles and guidance that have helped professionals understand how the MCA is to be applied in practice (see: Home page – Executive Functioning, When mental capacity assessments must delve beneath what people say to what they do – Community Care, Safeguarding adults enquiries: do you need consent? – Community Care and the Capacity guide – Recording Tool)

Deborah Rostant

30 years’ experience as a Social Worker. Deborah’s early years in practice were working across East London working in generic Children and Adults services, working throughout a person’s journey.
Deborah went on to work in social housing, quality, and practice in Cambridgeshire and more recently as Head of Social Work for Mental Health in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust. Deborah is currently working for Peterborough City Council in the Quality Practice Team. My passion is to make practice real, not process, remembering we are entrusted with human stories and to advocate for those who find it difficult to advocate for themselves. I have been fortunate to have been on some amazing journeys with individuals who have share their deepest stories with me.

Dr Sally Giddins BA(Hons), MSocSc, DipSW

Dr Sally Giddins is a Practice and Improvement Development Lead for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Safeguarding Partnership Boards (Children and Adults) and an Honorary Visiting Fellow for Anglia Ruskin University. As a qualified social work practitioner and manager Sally has always put the child at the centre of her practice. Sally has worked in children and adults services across voluntary and statutory sectors with a particular interest in engaging young people to safeguard them and to improve their life outcomes. Over the years Sally has worked within further and higher educational establishments, social services, detached youth work, probation services, education welfare, Youth Offending Teams and the Youth Justice Board.

Sally completed her doctoral thesis in 2024 on ‘What factors act as enablers or barriers to child safeguarding practitioners’ maintenance of ‘professional curiosity’ when working with children and families?’ Parents and adults at risk featured within this research influencing how practitioners enabled their curiosity.

Christine Jones

Christine Jones is the Safeguarding Adults Learning & Development Manager at Cambridgeshire County Council. With a Psychology degree, counselling and nearly two decades of experience in adult social care and safeguarding, Christine brings a deep commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals. Her career began in the homelessness sector, supporting young people affected by abuse and addiction, followed by work with a domestic abuse charity where she later served as a Trustee.
